All of my beanies are pretty old and outdated and I really love the sweater-looking beanies that are in style right now. The catch is that I can't knit and I really don't want to brave the insane crowds that are going on this time of year... So I decided to resolve my issue with a safe, indoor DYI project.

Tools you will need:
old sweater
beanie to measure with
scissors
sewing machine

1. Find an old sweater of yours or who-evers.

2. Measure where you'll want to cut your beanie with an existing beanie. Make sure you use the bottom edge of the sweater to create a nice, clean edge for the brim of the hat. I used the hood part of my sweater so I would do less sewing.

3. Cut around the beanie.

 4. Put the right sides together and sew the edges using a zig-zag stitch. (The zig-zag stitch allows some stretch.) And make sure you backstitch where you started and ended.

5. Trim the thread, flip it out and you've got yourself a sweater beanie!

In time for the holidays, I have a Peace on Earth Package available in the shop! It includes an 8x10 poster along with 7 gift tags/ornaments in a digital printable format.

I'm really into this hand-written, original, natural style and it flows perfectly with the rustic Christmas theme.

"Brown paper packages tied up with string..." it is truly one of my favorite things!

Examples of what the tags look like as ornaments on the tree.

And here are the freebies I promised: some free gift tags/ornaments to print on your own! Just click on the link here to download them.

Happy Christmas!

One year my mom had made a blanket and a few burp clothes for my doll and I remember being so excited that "Mrs. Claus" had gone out of her way to make me some things for my doll. Of course now I know who had really made them and it makes those gifts even sweeter.

Homemade gifts are great for those who want to add that extra bit of love and are also great if you're on a tight holiday budget. Which brings me to todays post: How to make Go Fishing Fishies! Perfect for toddlers learning how to better their coordination skills.

Tools you will need:
fun paper
glue
scissors
pen (optional)
laminating paper (optional)
paper clips

unsharpened pencil
string/yarn
magnet
glue-gun

 1. Gather some fun paper. I used a bunch of my scraps that coordinated together.
 2. Take a scrap, fold it the size you want one of your fishes to be.
 3. Glue one side of the folded paper.
 4. Glue together. Press firmly to make sure it's sealed on good.
5. Cut out your fish. By folding it, it's a doubled-sided decorative fish!
6. Go bananas by repeating the steps by cutting out lots of different sizes and shapes of fish in different colors. I had a lot of fun making different tails to make them more interesting.
7. Add little eyes or faces! After I had already laminated them, I had forgotten to draw on little faces! (optional)
8. Laminate your fishes so they laster longer. (optional)
9. Cut out fishes again.
10. Put paper clips on the fish.
11. You're more than half way done! What's left is making the fishing rod. I didn't make one because we already have one from a magnet puzzle we have, but here's an easy way to make one from home:

Get an unsharpened pencil. Tie/glue some yarn or string around the tip. Get a good sized magnet (a size you feel comfortable leaving your possibly unattended child with) and tie/glue the other end of string around it.
Here's a better view of some ideas you can do.

As a young child I remember loving this game so I hope I can pass it down to my little girl.

Congratulations to Missy Davis Hancock for liking my Facebook page! I know she's my sister, but I promise it wasn't rigged! It was completely random!

Thank you ALL for your support and interest in my designs! I loved reading your comments! I hope to be able to create a card for you soon! If not this year, then maybe the next. I'm also open to doing invitations and announcements - I just haven't posted it in my shop yet.

On a happier note, I've got a Christmas freebie in the works, so stay tuned!

I love the rustic Christmas decor that's becoming really popular and started incorporating it into my holiday decor last year. Our apartment could still use some rustic lovin' so I decided to add on this perfect pinecone garland to help tie in other areas of the room. I got the idea from here, but she took it to a whole notha level with putting gold-leaf on the pinecones and making it very classy. I'm cheap (read: poor) so my toddler and I gathered pinecones and just used some Dollar Tree twine. But before I get ahead of myself, let's just dive in on how to make it:

Tools you will need:
pinecones
twine
(like I mentioned, I scored mine at the dollar store!)
scissors

1. Cut the desired length of twine to fit the area you will be covering and add on a good 6in. (Just to be safe.)
 2. Take a pinecone and tie a knot around the top area. I tried double-knotting it, but it just looked bulky and it's fine with just one tight knot. I understand twine's vary, so do what you feel is best.
 3. Move down a few inches and tie on another pinecone. Keep adding pinecones until you get the desired amount of cones on. Leave room on the outer strands to use as fasting or taping onto your shelf, mantel, or other type of surface you fancy.
4. And you're done! It may take a few practices to get the tying to work in your favor, but you'll get the hang of it and have a system going. I was surprised at how nicely the pinecones hid the twine so it looks like they were glued on or something.

I really enjoyed how quick and cheap this project was and I love how it ties in the rustic theme. Stay tuned for other rustic Christmas decorations and free printables!

Guys, I got our family's Christmas card design finished 2 days before Halloween... Can you tell I love Christmas?? I also wanted to give myself some time to design a custom Christmas card for a lucky winner! It's about time for another giveaway, don'tcha think?

So here's the card that I did for this year:
It's an infographic summing up our year along with a photo on the back.

And here's the postcard design I did for last year's card:
Postcards are cheaper to mail, which is why I did one... and they are a little unique!

I will be offering custom card designs in my shop and to promote this I am having a giveaway! One lucky winner will receive a custom Christmas card design! I will design your Christmas card and then e-mail the file for you to print yourself. If you want me to print them for you, that will cost extra, but the custom design will be free if you win! (Details on what this includes can be found here.) Good Luck!

So I have an 18 month old and I really want to take her around to a few houses as her first Trick or Treating experience! I'm really excited. But because she won't be getting a ton of candy, I didn't want to buy a big bag. I wanted her to be able to hold her little bag easily so it needed to be small. I've already made too many errands to Wal-Mart, so I really didn't want to go back for one little thing. So I decided to make her one! I'm kinda not making her costume, so I figure this can make up for it. She'll still be able to use it for a few more years, right?

Tools you will need:

fabric of your choice
pins
scissors
thread of your choice
ruler
iron (it helps make the sewing easier)

First, cut out the size you want your tote to be. I did hers 22x10.5 (which is including the extra seaming space). Then press and pin the sides in so you can have nice clean lines. Sew all around it.

Second, make your color-blocked handles. The total length I made the handles was 18in. The yellow blocks were each 4.5 and the black blocks were 9in. The width was 1.5 in. Iron/press for sewing ease.

Third, sew the yellow blocks to the black.

Fourth, sew the entire strip together length-wise. Turn right-side out. Press.

Fifth, sew your handles to your tote body! I sewed over it twice for durability.

Sixth, fold tote and sew the sides together. Make sure you don't sew around the whole thing! At this point, add in your little tag on one of the sides if you'd like!

Seventh, turn it out and press. And you're done! I don't have a serger, so I didn't serge any of the sides. You are welcome to do so if you own one! It will make the inside much prettier!

Remember? It's this print.

I'm so excited for this chance to get some recognition! Check it out here. They're doing a nursery trend watch with ombre and there are a lot of good ideas!

This is by far my most popular print in my shop. I wish I could do more stuff like it right now, but I'm so busy! School has been really hard and that and my family is my priority right now. Such a shame I can't devote more time because this really is a big leap for my little shop.

Happy Monday!

I suppose I better jump on the Fall/Halloween bandwagon and get my little home decor ideas out there before it's too late.

This is a super simple, super cheap decor craft that can be used for any holiday. But because it's Halloween time, this looks like fall decor instead.

Tools you will need:
frame of your choice
paper of your choice

1. Measure out the size of paper you'll need to fit a frame box (where the photo would normally go) then trim it.

I had 3 different frame boxes and so I measured out 3 different types of paper to fill the spaces.

2. Then tape it onto the mat (or glass) to where it needs to be placed.

3. Then put the frame together and it's ready to go!

Place with other decor pieces for a more put-together look.

I've been wanting one of these for a while now.

I love displaying pictures all over my house because pictures makes me happy! And this photo collage/gallery can display lots of pictures and quotes and makes it easy for me to swap out different ones.

Tools you will need:
frame of your choice
spray paint
twine
staple gun
clothes pins
*optional: clear spray paint

First off, I wanted it to be big in order to be able to display lots of photos. But, I didn't want to pay $100+ to get a big frame... So I scored this custom frame at DI! Holla! The color and wood was actually kinda pretty, but I wanted it to be white so it wouldn't distract from the photos. So I removed the backing and glass and painted it.

After painting your frame the color of your choice, spray a clear coating to protect your mighty paint job. Then grab your twine and staple it to your frame. I don't own a staple gun, so I just tied it to the frame backing staples, but I suggest stapling it if you can.

Then, this is optional, but you can paint your clothes pins to match! Or be different fun colors. You decide.

Then you're ready to hang your frame and then tag on your photos and quotes! Enjoy!
