My brother-in-law is open for business! Writing wills, trusts and estate planning, that is. This is  something he wanted to do on the side, but this side job needed to look professional.

There are a LOT of other attorney's out there who are either doing this as a full time job or a side business like Nathan. I really wanted him to stand out from the others because after awhile they all start to look the same, and looking the same isn't good in the branding field! How I thought he could stand out from the crowd was having a symbol the connected with his name. That way what was visual was connecting to him and vice versa. Because he has a fun last name, I decided to play along with that factor and did the green leaf. So people can connect the summery leaf to his Summers last name.

If you want any will, trust, or estate planning done, contact Nathan here!

Halloween is approaching FAST! I can't believe it's only next week! And I'm sure you all have festivities going on this weekend, which means, if you haven't already gotten together costumes, you'll need something quick!

Of course, just buying something at the store would be super easy, but if what you're looking for is out of stock or just not exactly what you're wanting, you can quickly make this tutu skirt to top off any little girl's costume. I've seen these go with so many different characters like: witches, princesses, pirates, super heros... the possibilities are endless.

Here I made one for my little girl to spruce up her ladybug costume. I couldn't choose to make the skirt all black or all red, so I decided to do both! I also wanted to try something a little different and do it layered. Most tutu's I've seen have different colors mixed in, but this one is unique in the way that the black is on the bottom and is longer and the red is layered on top and is shorter.

Supplies:
tulle (there weren't any rolls left, so I got 4-5 yds of each color for size 3T)
elastic
matching thread
scissors

First, measure your elastic around your child. Make sure it's snug. Cut and either hand-sew or use a sewing machine to stitch together. (Elastic color doesn't matter too much, but if you have light colors I would use white.)
Double the tulle up so one side is folded and the other is the raw edge. Measure your child's legs to see how long it should be then add 2 inches to be safe. Cut. Then cut that long strip into little 2 inch wide strips. It doesn't need to be perfect - just eyeball it.

Do the same thing with the other color, only shorten it by a few inches so it can be the shorter front layer.

Now that you have your strips, it's time to make them into a tutu! Wrap the elastic around something so you have your hands free; I used the back of a chair. Grab one strip and keep it folded in half. Pull it down, folded side first, and form a loop. Dip the raw ends into the loop and tighten to form a knot.

Keep making knots. Add in the other layer by doing it every other one. I even added more of the bottom color to add more volume, so you can do: bottom layer 2, upper layer 1 and repeat that pattern until it's at the fullness and volume you want it to be.

And there you have it! It didn't take more than an hour to do.
As for the rest of her ladybug ensemble, I bought the wings and antennas on Amazon (currently out of stock). Then she just wore a black shirt, tights, and shoes.
 Happy Festivities!

Recycled cheap projects. All the rage right now for those who don't want to spend big bucks and help our Mother Earth.

These little Halloween cans are recycled from different types of cans like pumpkin, beans, cream of chicken and the bat is even a pickle jar. I actually made these when I was newly married and even more tight on a budget and have still kept them around. My husband is so cute because he's always saying how much he likes them and how different they are compared to other decorations. Because they were so cheap, I never thought of them as unique and cool! But there you have it, from a man, that these cans are indeed groovy and fun.

So here is what you need to make these adorable cans:
cans of all shapes and sizes
acrylic paint
card stock paper
googly eyes
black sharpie pen
white fabric
hot glue gun
To make the pumpkins and creeper, first paint the entire can. You'll need to do a few coats to get it even and covered. After it's dry, use the sharpie pen to draw on the faces. I found that to be much easier than trying to paint it!

For the bat, paint the can. After it's dry, cut out some fangs and wings using white and black card stock. Hot glue the googly eyes, fangs, and wings. For the wings, make sure to hold it steady while it dries to make sure they get on really good. Every year or so they fall off after being packed up in a box, but they can easily be hot glued again.

And the mummy, you don't kneed to paint the can. First, hot glue a square of white fabric on the top of the can. Then cut lots of little 1/4 in. strips. Glue on the strips going in different directions. This is fun because it doesn't need to be perfect, just make sure you cover the whole can. Then glue on the googly eyes.
The options are endless with all of the different Halloween creatures you can do! I thought of doing frankenstein and drilling nails into the can or you can make a witches hat out of card stock and glue in on the head. Whatever you want, but here are some ideas I have done that can get you started.

At the end of August we went camping with some friends and it was a bit of a drive to get to our destination. In hoping that the car ride went smoothly, I made each of our kiddos a travel bag and filled it with coloring packs and treats.

I just used some scraps and attempted to make a tutorial, but I was having difficulties putting them together myself with the layers I added! So I decided I better not try to tell someone else how to do it if I was barely able to pull it off! But for the well-accustomed sewer, one bag wouldn't take more than an hour.

I was thinking these bags would not only be great for individualized car ride activities, but could also be used for church or the upcoming LDS General Conference. It's hard for kids to sit through 4 hours (or 8 hours) of old men talking, but with activities they're able to hold their attention much longer. I know I loved having crossword puzzles or bingo card activities to do during conference when I was a kid.

She loves her "purse".

'Tis the season for giving your friends and neighbors treats! I dunno what it is about fall and Christmas, but it's just what you do this time of year.

I recently thought of this cute idea to make an ordinary plate of cookies extra cute by adding a fun napkin. I saw these napkins at TJ Maxx and just couldn't resist myself and they have proved themselves worthy! I love the pop they add to a typical paper plate. I'm sure Target or even the party section at Wal-Mart would have cute paper napkins like this so you can make your own plates pop with fabulousness!
